New Jersey's legal online gambling scene has developed to support various domestic online gaming forms like poker, sports betting, and casino gambling.
New Jersey may not have been the first state to legalize online gambling and offer state-regulated gambling options, but at this point in the game, they are considered the state that has been the most successful thus far with three forms of online gaming legalized.
This page will review locally available state-licensed gaming options on land and online, state gambling laws, federal gambling laws, and lawful licensed online NJ gambling opportunities.
New Jersey Gambling Laws
New Jersey permits the following gambling forms for residents and visitors to enjoy: casino gambling, pari-mutuel wagering on horses, sports gambling, charitable gambling, state lottery gaming, and poker gambling. NJ has state-regulated online gambling options for poker, sports betting, and casino gaming. However, unless licensed and regulated by New Jersey's Casino Control Commission, any other NJ-based online operation is considered illegal.

The outcome of the New Jersey Sports Betting Supreme Court Case
Update May 2018: New Jersey won the SCOTUS case against the major sports leagues. As a result, PASPA was struck down and states became able to enact their own sports betting legislation. Despite being the crusading state in the fight against PASPA, New Jersey still had some legislative kinks to work out before local establishments could begin offering betting options. Delaware became the first state in the post-PASPA era to have legal regulated betting, but New Jersey's industry launched shortly thereafter. NJ Governor Phil Murphy signed A-4111 into law on June 11, 2018.
A-4111 permits NJ casinos and racetracks to accept in-person wagers. It also permits the same establishments to apply for the rights to host online and mobile betting. The only sports not featured for wagering are collegiate sports featuring New Jersey teams (or being contested within the state), high school sports, and eSports competitions—the rest is all fair game. Any person closely associated with a sport in a professional capacity may not bet on their own sporting category. For example, Tilman Fertitta, owner of the Houston Rockets and the Golden Nugget in Atlantic City, cannot wager on NBA basketball. His casino property does not feature NBA lines as a result.
All casinos pay 8.5% of their revenue back to the state on land-based wagers and 13% on online/mobile bets. There is no mention of integrity fees anywhere in the NJ sports betting law. This means the NFL, NBA, NHL, MLB and NCAA will not see a dime from NJ betting revenue.
